The night air was cool to the touch as hot steamy sounds leaked from inside the back room of Cinespace, the sound was something intoxicating. It had soul, feeling, groove, sex. It was alive and breathing, it was The Heavy. Coming down like cinder block, the five piece from Noid made music that could quite possibly have burnt down the roof that night. Noise so stimulating it very well could be the racket musicians like the Stooges and John Lee Hooker would make babies too. From the beginning of their set the Heavy’s rhythm section, made up of Spencer Page and Chris Ellul laid down the big head banging beats while lead guitarist Dan T delivered the hip shakin’ riffs and front man Swaby accompanied by keyboardist Hannah Collins sang sweet swaggering vocals. During the first song the crowd was a bit weary to get on the dance floor, as many a L.A. crowd is [we’re shy folk] but once the hypnotizing noise of the Heavy drenched the room in the love that is their music the dance floor was flooded with people dancing and letting loose for the rest of their set. To put it lightly, the floor felt like it was going to collapse and I don’t think anyone would have noticed. We were all too drunk on the Heavy’s sound and presence. The Heavy is a band not to be ignored and their shows are not to be missed…ever.
